Led Solutions: Gulf of Mexico
On November 20-21,
2003 the Texas Institute for Applied Environmental
Research (TIAER) and Iowa State University Extension
(ISUE) will host a two-day workshop in St. Louis,
Missouri entitled Industry-Led Solutions: Gulf
of Mexico. Industry-Led Solutions: Gulf of Mexico
will bring together leaders from the agricultural
industry to focus on the flow of nutrients through
the Mississippi River basin to the Gulf of Mexico.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the Gulf
Hypoxia Action Plan and the role agricultural
leadership can contribute to proposed efforts.
Participants will include producers from livestock
and crop sectors in the Mississippi River basin,
EPA Regional Administrators, USDA State Conservationists,
as well as representatives from the environmental
community, financial institutions, municipalities,
and non-agricultural industry. The workshop will
emphasize leadership and the building of relationships
as key factors in addressing environmental issues

Produces Forty-Five New Publications in 2002
The Texas Institute
for Applied Environmental Research (TIAER) produced
forty-five new publications in 2002. These publications
cover a variety of nonpoint source pollution topics
including water quality issues in the North Bosque
River watershed, total maximum daily load (TMDL)
analysis, and modeling of agricultural watersheds
